What is the best place for shopping in NYC?
I would be deeply grateful if you can tell a first-time in NY brazilian tourist the best places to buy: 1) Laptops and cameras 2) Unexpensive Clothes 3) NIKE Sneakers 4) Unexpensive small products for my friends in Brazil. AH! Is there any place I should avoid? Or because they're expensive or cheap quality? Thank you very much!

Answer 1 :
stay out of manhattan, they are priced kinda high....i find that shopping in the boro's...brooklyn, queens etc is much better. try steinway street in queens. every other store is a shop like what ur looking for. and they even sell 220 watts for overseas outlets. i once bought a microwave there to send to my sister in law from egypt.
Answer 2 :
Brooklyn is the place to get cheap goods. Try to prevent Manhattan
Answer 3 :
I agree with the other person..Canal Street used to be great for that stuff...but due to tourists, the people who sell there have jacked up the prices because they feel they can (this frustrates me because growing up in new york, i loved going there for cheap items that weren't all that bad with quality) If your idea for inexpensive is different than mine, there are great places in the city for that...Uptown has really nice designer spots as well as the fashion district..but they're not cheap as these brands never are unless they're bootlegs. **If you are dead set on getting "souvenirs" for your friends in Brazil though, Canal has tons..just don't let them rip you off and try to talk them down in price. If they tell you they are the only ones who have these items, tell them you saw them right down the block at "that other stand/store" and they'll probably try to work with you. I caught a tourist couple in that situation and helped them out with it.
Answer 4 :
electronics probably go to chain stores in bestbuy, target. unexpensive brand name clothes go to burlington coat factory, tj maxxx, marshalls. sneakers go to the manhattan mall, queens center mall. unexpensive small products go to chinatown canal street. i would not buy electronics from chinatown since they are all fake and will break easily

What kind of laptop should I buy
What kind of laptop should I buy?
I'm moving to Brazil shortly and I need a good laptop to use while I'm there. My top priorities for this laptop are 1) WoW 2) Long battery life 3) Light weight (I'll be traveling a lot within Brazil this year) I don't know anything about laptops so all help is appreciated. I'll also be applying for colleges back home while I'm there and I'll be running Skype a lot. I'd like to keep the price around $500 dollars. Thanks for all help!

NOKIA E100
Answer 2 :
i would suggest netbook especially Acer Aspire AS1410-2497 11.6-Inch Blue Laptop - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) Considering the specs, that it comes with Win 7 Home Premium, and the price, this is a fantastic little machine. I wanted to use this for a perhaps slightly different purpose than most netbook users. I am a photographer and really wanted the ability to check photos in the field. Making sure things are in focus, for example, is often important because I do a lot of macro photography. It's impossible to really tell on a camera LCD how the image has turned out. I own an older laptop, but it's just too darn heavy to lug around all the time. I was a bit worried that the resolution of a 10-inch netbook would be too low to see good detail but with this netbook and its bright, higher-res screen, the details are all visible and the photos look great. Not that it would replace my desktop, but that's not its intended purpose. That said, it's useless in full sunlight but if you can find any sort of shady spot, it's pretty good. A lot of my work is done indoors anyway. I've found I have to crank up the screen brightness outdoors and that helps a lot. That probably would affect battery life, but I don't anticipate running out of power on a typical shoot anyway.
Answer 3 :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215126 Ok, this has a decent graphics card that will run WoW on lower graphics. 4gb of ram and 3.0ghz phenom II processor. Should have no problem with speed. your not really going to find a laptop with a good enough card to play a game, be small enough to carry around, and have good battery life. You can get around 3 hours with this machine. All this for under $400. Hope I could help.

Try this laptop recommender: http://laptoprec.com

Safe way to mail from Brazil to USA
Safe way to mail from Brazil to USA?
On my last visit to Brazil I purchased a very nice piece of jewelry ($2,500 USD) for my mom's 50th birthday. Unfortunately, I'm a dope and I left the bag it was in at one of my friend's relatives house. To make a long story short, I want to send my friend's family enough money (and instructions) to ship the bag to me so it will arrive safely and legally. I am willing to pay whatever I need to. Besides the jewlery, the bag also contains a Dell laptop I bought in the summer of 2006 and some clothes I bought. Does anyone know how I can ship my things to the US from Brazil. Its a small bag and weighs maybe 5 lbs? Again, I want it to arrive here safely. Thank you for your response in advance.

Answer 1 :
Use either , Fedex or DHL. or Why don't you try and get a cheap air ticket and just go down and collect it.
Answer 2 :
You can use any courier, even the Brazilian post office (it's just as safe as the USPS) as long as you're able to ensure your package for the full amount. You're shipping really expensive stuff...your main concern should not be so much the Brazilian post office or UPS or FEdex, but you have to find put with US Customs how much they're gonna charge for you to receive that stuff. Maybe there'll be no cost, but sometimes they make you pay taxes on things you get from abroad, and they wont give the item to you unless you pay.
Answer 3 :
I would try to find someone to take the stuff. For expensive stuff it´s really risky to send by mail. If you live in Brazil and can insure the package (because if you try to claim anything from overseas, forget it) then at least you would have some peace of mind
